The first batch of Kenyan athletes who will represent the country during the 20th World Championships pencilled for between the 13th and 21st of this month in Tokyo, Japan jetted off on Monday afternoon .
The team which left this afternoon consisted of Nelly Chepchirir (800m), world bronze medallist in 3000m SC Faith Cherotich, Reynold Cheruiyot (1500m), and Phanuel Kosgei (1500m), among others.
Athletics Kenya Executive Member, who also doubles up as the National Olympic Committee of Kenya 1st Vice President, Barnaba Korir led the team off to Japan.
Faith Kipyegon (1500m & 5000m) and Mary Moraa (800m) will be the only Kenyans to defend their titles in Japan starting this Saturday.
Over 2000 athletes will be competing in this year’s edition, with 38 of 41 champions in Budapest defending their titles in Tokyo.
Team Kenya, consisting of 58 athletes, will be aiming to better their 2023 Budapest outing with 10 medals: 3 gold, 3 silver and 4 bronze.
