The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has arrested four officials from the Pensions Department at the National Treasury following a two-month undercover operation into widespread bribery allegations.

The suspects, which include senior officers and clerical staff, are accused of operating a criminal extortion ring that targets members of the public seeking services from the department.

EACC’s investigations reveal that bribes were solicited through a mobile paybill account used to expedite service delivery. This account, registered under a third party linked to one of the officials, is reported to have processed over KSh10.5 million in the past two years.

“The suspects are being processed at Integrity Centre Police Station and will be later escorted to Kilimani Police Station pending investigations,” said EACC Head of Corporate Affairs and Communication Stephen Karuga in a statement.

The Commission reaffirmed its commitment to combating corruption in public institutions, promising to address “bribery at service delivery points to restore public trust and improve access to quality services for all citizens.”
