The Government is set to revive the construction of Ruring’u Stadium in Nyeri County.
Sports Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya accompanied by Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga said the construction of the facility whose seating capacity will be 15,000 is set to resume in earnest.
Initially the facility was set to have a capacity of 20,000 but has now been reduced to 15,000 with the construction set to cost Ksh.850Million.
The Construction of the facility stalled immediately after former President Uhuru Kenyatta launched it in 2017.According to Mvurya Kenya Defence Forces is set to supervise the construction of the historic facility famed for producing some of the Country’s best known athletes in years of yore.
“As a government we are committed in ensuring this facility is done. We have identified a contractor who will do this work together with Kenya Defence Forces to ensure that work is done in eight months,” said Mvurya.
Nyeri governor Mutahi Kahiga, urged the contractor to finish the project on time and enable the talents in the region hone their talents.
“Whether the President tour is on or not this facility must be completed we have missed a lot for instance Athletics Meets which were a phenomenon each year. We have not been hosted the event for the last eight years,” said Kahiga.
