The Government has committed to increase the budget it has set aside to elderly citizens under the Inua Jamii cash transfer programme.

On Tuesday while addressing the media, Government Spokesperson Isaac Mwaura said the funds which directly benefit about 1.7 million Kenyans will be increased from Ksh 3.52 billion to Ksh 15 billion over three years to June 2027.

“These funds have benefitted about 1.7 million beneficiaries including the elderly citizens above 70 years; the severely disabled; as well as Orphans and Vulnerable Children (OVCs),” he said.

He added, “Since, February 11, 2025 when the January, 2025 payment begun, about 1.4 million beneficiaries have already accessed their funds, through mobile transfer.”

In the ongoing registration drive to have citizens enrolled, Mwaura noted the Government projects to have 2.5 million beneficiaries listed under the Inua Jamii cash transfer programme.

He committed a seamless and timely payment process that ensures no one is left behind.
