I will not allow anarchy; president Ruto declares over Sondu clashes

President William Ruto has pledged to restore order in the troubled Sondu area along the Kisumu-Kericho common border that has been rocked by a bloody conflict.

Speaking in Kisumu as he kicked off his four day tour of the Nyanza region, the president declared total war on those fuelling the conflict.

“I have already instructed interior Cabinet Secretary Kindiki Kithure to deal with the perpetrators of the Sondu conflict the same way the government has dealt with alshabaab militants and those fueling conflict in the north rift” The president declared.

He said the government will not tolerate tribal conflicts in the country saying those who will be found culpable will face the full force of the law.

Kindiki had yesterday ordered the transfer of all security chiefs at the troubled Sondu town along the Kisumu-Kericho common border in a radical move aimed at containing acts of criminality in the area.

The Government has also deployed a contingent of specialist security personnel to contain the escalation of violent crime in Sondu Town and its environs.

On his first day of the tour which witnessed the groundbreaking for the construction of the Kabonyo-Kanyagwal fisheries and aquaculture center of excellence, the president promised to transform the economic fortunes of the local community through targeted interventions.

The president promised to improve the livelihoods of the local community by addressing existing challenges including in the fishing and sugar industries that have been the backbone of the regional economy.

The president revealing that the government is in the process of constructing eight fish landing sites at a cost of 900 million shillings whose construction will be completed over the next one year.

The first phase of the construction of the 5,000 housing units in Kisumu that will see 7,000 young people involved in the project will also be launched by December.

During his four day tour, the president will among others commission the lake basin mall, launch MV Uhuru 2, launch the upgrading of Bondo-Uyawi-Kibanga-Liunda road to bitumen standards, Mfangano Ring Road in Suba North, launch the construction of Ugenya level  4 hospital, Mutumbu digital lab in  Gem, launch contrition of the Sindo-Karungu-Mbita road, tour victory Fish Farms in Sindo and initiate the rehabilitation of Piers in Homabay.
