Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa has urged the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to expedite investigations into the murder of Kisa East Ward MCA Stephen Maloba, who was stabbed to death two years ago during a political rally.
Speaking at a church service held at Mundaha Church of God in Kisa East Ward, Khwisero Constituency, Governor Barasa expressed frustration over the prolonged delay in apprehending those behind the killing.
He stressed the need for urgent action to bring the perpetrators to justice.
“We still want to know the truth. I will follow up with the national government to ensure justice is served for Stephen. It is now two years and no one has been arrested. We want justice for Mheshimiwa Stephen Maloba,” said Barasa.
He reaffirmed his support for Maloba’s family and the residents of Kisa East, pledging to walk with them in their pursuit of justice.
The late Maloba was fatally stabbed on April 1, 2023, during a chaotic political rally at Munjiti in Khwisero Constituency, an event that had been convened by area MP Christopher Aseka.
According to eyewitnesses, Maloba was attacked by knife-wielding individuals who attempted to block him from addressing the crowd.
He sustained a stab wound to the chest and was rushed to Vihiga County Referral Hospital in Mbale, where he succumbed to his injuries shortly after arrival.
