Musalia Mudavadi, the Prime Cabinet Secretary and Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs, met with Mr. Zhang Zhizhong, the Deputy Head of Mission at the Chinese Embassy in Nairobi, on Thursday.

Kenya has committed to collaborating closely with China on the newly launched Global Governance Initiative (GGI). The initiative, proposed by the People’s Republic of China, aims to reform global governance systems and enhance multilateralism.

‎Speaking during a meeting with Mr. Zhang Zhizhong, the Deputy Head of Mission at the Chinese Embassy in Nairobi, Prime Cabinet Secretary and Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs, Musalia Mudavadi, congratulated China on the launch of the GGI, calling it a new chapter in global cooperation that Kenya is proud to join.

“I join nations of goodwill in congratulating the Government of the People’s Republic of China on the launch of the Global Governance Initiative,” Mudavadi stated.

He noted that the initiative is timely and relevant, particularly for the Global South.

According to Mudavadi, the GGI arrives at a crucial moment for the world, calling for strengthened multilateralism based on international law, respect for sovereignty, mutual trust, and peaceful coexistence among nations.

“The GGI is a rallying point to unite like-minded nations, Kenya included, to forge a predictable and just world order where the rule of law and mutual commitments guide global cooperation,” he said

‎”It offers an opportunity to shape international systems that put people first and create win-win outcomes for all,” Mudavadi added.

He expressed Kenya’s eagerness to actively engage with China in achieving the objectives of the GGI.

The GGI is the latest in a series of global frameworks proposed by China, following the Global Development Initiative (GDI), Global Security Initiative (GSI), and Global Civilisation Initiative (GCI).

The GDI promotes international cooperation on development, the GSI encourages dialogue and consultation to resolve international conflicts, and the GCI advocates for exchanges and mutual learning among different civilizations.

The GGI aims to provide a new framework for reforming international governance systems and institutions in an inclusive, fair, and beneficial manner for all.

During the meeting, Mr. Zhang Zhizhong noted that while each of the four initiatives has distinct priorities, they can be pursued simultaneously.

“Together, they offer positive energy for our turbulent world and serve as a strong foundation for global progress and the shared future of humanity,” he stated.
