Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) in partnership with Global Foundation for Children with hearing loss (GFCHL) and Faraja Cancer Support are set to host a Cochlear Implant Day Wednesday.

The event comes after a successful implantation procedure to over 50 children last year in November through a donation from Princess Lalla Asma Foundation of Morocco.

“As these children begin the critical stage of activation and rehabilitation, KNH in collaboration with GFCHL, is organizing this Family Day to provide guidance, education, and a supportive network for beneficiary families,” said KNH.

The Family Day is expected to bring together beneficiary children and their caregivers, hearing health professionals, rehabilitation specialists, and invited guests to share experiences and expertise. The goal is to ensure families are well-equipped and supported as their child goes through rehabilitation.

Cochlear implant surgery is a procedure for individuals with severe to profound hearing loss, involving the surgical implantation of an electronic device to directly stimulate the auditory nerve.

The surgery, typically performed under general anaesthesia, involves making an incision behind the ear to place the internal receiver under the scalp and insert an electrode array into the inner ear (cochlea).
