A somber mood has engulfed Ikoli village in Malava Constituency, Kakamega County, following the brutal murder of a 73-year-old man over a suspected land dispute.
The man was attacked by a gang of unknown assailants, while his wife, who was critically injured, is receiving treatment at Kakamega County Referral Hospital.
According to villagers, led by the deceased’s daughter Rose Ititi, assailants stormed their homestead at midnight, killing the old man and severely injuring one of his wives, including severing her tongue.
Preliminary reports suggest that the murder may have been fueled by a family land dispute. It is alleged that the deceased had withheld the land title deed, denying his brothers access to ownership documents.
Ikoli Chief Moses Namutali has urged residents and the bereaved family to remain calm as police investigate the incident.
The deceased is survived by 34 children and four wives.
