The construction of the South B Modern Market commenced Thursday following a ground breaking ceremony officiated by Cabinet Secretary Ministry of Lands Public Works, Housing and Urban Development Alice Wahome.

According to a statement by the Lands Ministry, the South B Modern Market is among five County Strategic Markets being developed by the National Government across Nairobi County, alongside Majimazuri, Riruta, Jogoo Road, and Kangemi markets.

It represents a major milestone in providing safe, secure, and efficient spaces for over 1,000 traders, with projections to accommodate up to 1,500 on busy market days.

The market has been designed with a range of amenities, including a crèche, health room, and ICT hub.

“This project will not only uplift the livelihoods of traders but also generate a wealth of opportunities both directly and indirectly especially for those within the thriving Jua Kali sector.” The statement read.

The construction of these markets aligns with the National Government’s agenda to support small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and strengthen urban infrastructure.
