Under the radar, a quiet fighter and genuine son of the land, Mr. George Maelo, works relentlessly with passion and accuracy.
Growing up as the son of a retired police officer in the community of Bungoma in Bukembe, Maelo exemplifies the values of dedication, affection, and enthusiasm for the game.
From forming Kenya Police FC as a player in 2014 after the disbandment of Red Berets FC in 2010 to going unbeaten in Division 1 & 2 for two years, his influence has always been felt.
He joined Sofapaka in 2016 captaining the team through relegation battles before his transfer to Makueni that paused his active playing career.
In the year 2021, he went back to Nairobi as the D/OCS Kabete.
Maelo was called upon by CEO Chris Mbwanga and Charles Omondi ‘Korea’ to help lead the team back to the top.
Under the visionary leadership of Chairman Mr. Nyale Munga, Maelo became the Team Manager helping secure a return to Premier League the same year after a crucial playoff win against Vihiga United.
Due to his talent spotting and unwavering work ethic, Police FC finished ninth in 2021–2022 and third in 2022–2023.
He briefly left the squad for unknown reasons, but in November 2024, when the team was in 18th place and in danger of relegation, he made a strong comeback.
Today, under his steady hand Kenya Police FC are the 2024/2025 Premier League Champions for the first time in the club’s history, a year after winning the FKF Cup which earned them a maiden ticket to the CAF Confederation’s cup competition.
Maelo continues to serve with passion, humility, and unrivalled dedication from practice to game day.
Kenyan Premier League title gives Police FC not only bragging rights, but also the privilege of representing the country in the CAF Champions League for the first time next season.
