Man armed with bow and arrows kills police officer near State House

The National Police Service (NPS) has launched investigations into the death of a police officer who was attacked along Dennis Pritt Road near State House, Gate D, Nairobi to establish the motive behind the incident.

In a statement, NPS noted that the officer was attacked by a 56-year-old man, armed with a bow and arrows on Monday morning, at approximately 8:10 a.m who shot the Police Constable Ramadhan Mattanka in the left ribs.

“A 56-year-old man, armed with a bow and arrows, rapidly approached police officers stationed in the area. Despite being challenged to surrender, the suspect advanced on Police Constable Ramadhan Mattanka and shot him in the left ribs with an arrow. General Service Unit (GSU) officers on duty restrained and arrested the assailant rapidly approached police officers stationed in the area.” Stated NPS.

The injured officer was then rushed to Kenyatta National Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment.

NPS says the officer’s body has been transferred to the hospital’s mortuary, pending a post-mortem examination.

While condemning the incident, the National Police Service extended their condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of the late Constable Ramadhan Mattanka.

NPS noted that the officer’s next of kin have been notified and pledged solidarity with them during this time.
