A Nairobi City Water and Sewerage Company (NCWSC) employee, Brenda Nelly Sulungai, has been ordered to defend herself against allegations that she forged academic documents to gain employment at the water utility firm.
The Milimani Anti- Corruption Court ruled that Sulungai has a case to answer after the prosecution, led by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), presented enough evidence to support the charges which includes forgery, uttering a false document and deceiving a principal, all contrary to Section 48 of the Anti- Corruption and Economic Crimes Act, 2003 (ACECA).
According to the court proceeding, the charges stem from claims that Sulungai forged a Diploma in Community Development and Social Work, purportedly issued by Zetech University on 6th November 2015.
The prosecution alleges that she used this document to secure a position at NCWSC.
It was further alleged that on 4th July 2019, she presented the forged diploma to the Managing Directior and NCWSC, claiming it was valid academic qualification from Zetech University.
The court also heard that on 22nd November 2021, while serving as a Community Development Assistant, Sulungai submitted the same document to her employer for an official personnel file update.
The prosecution stated that she knowingly declared she held the diploma, despite being aware the document was fake.
During the trial, the prosecution called four witnesses and submitted 25 documentary exhibits to support its case.
Among the evidence presented were expert findings indicating that the signatures on the disputed certificate didn’t match those of the authorized signatories specifically the Vice Chancellor and Deputy Vice Chancellor of Zetech University.
The defense hearing is schedule to take place on 22nd August 2025.
