Nigerians Sophia Ekeruche and Archibong Prestige are the champions of the Africa Youth Scrabble Championship after winning the under-15 and under-19 categories, respectively.
The 2025 Africa Youth Scrabble Championship, which concluded on Sunday at the Brighton International School, attracted a total of 138 participants from 5 countries.
Nigeria has successfully defended its Africa Youth Scrabble Championship title after dominating and winning the second edition of the tournament, which ended today at Brighton International School in Syokimau, Machakos County.
Nigerians Sophia Ekeruche and Archibong Prestige won the under-15and under-19 titles, respectively.
Ekeruche won all her 18 matches to win the category ahead of Kenya’s Kingsley Odhiambo, who was second after winning 14 of the 18 matches played in the tournament.
Hassan Olojoku of Nigeria was third, winning 13 matches and losing 5 matches.

Michael Somuah of Ghana and Adrian Ngache of Kenya sealed the top five positions in the tournament that lasted for a period of four days.
Archibong Prestige, who has been leading the under-19category since the get-go, dominated and won the category after winning 18 matches and losing six.
Abdulqudus Aliu, also of Nigeria, settled for second position, having won and lost the same number of matches.
Olojoku Sufyan and Joy Nwabuzor, both of Nigeria, sealed the top four positions, with the best Kenyan, Olive Alila, dropping down to fifth position.
The 2nd Africa Youth Scrabble Championship attracted a total of 138 players, almost double the number that competed in the first edition held in Lagos, Nigeria, in 2023.
Ghana, which will host the world Scrabble championship in November this year, may also host the 3rd edition of the Africa Youth Scrabble championship in 2027.
