One person was killed and six others, including an 11-year-old boy, sustained gunshot injuries following a brutal bandit attack on Sunday night in LMD Village, Burat Ward, Isiolo County.

The assailants, believed to be from neighbouring areas of Kipsing, Oldonyiro, and Samburu County, also killed 10 camels and stole 17 others during the raid.

According to Mzee Osman Bidu, the Vice Chairperson of the Isiolo Somali Council of Elders and one of the injured, the heavily armed attackers struck the village at around 10:00 pm, shooting indiscriminately.

A group of residents who pursued the raiders was ambushed along the way. Four people, including Mzee Bidu, were wounded in the ensuing gunfire, bringing the total number of injured persons to six.

All victims are currently receiving treatment at the Isiolo County Teaching and Referral Hospital.

In the aftermath of the attack, anger and frustration have erupted among the local Somali community.

Community leaders, including Osman Shariff Awkay and Anab Kassim, accused the government of neglect and failing to protect residents despite substantial investment in national security infrastructure, including drones and armoured vehicles to help contain the banditry menace.

The leaders have demanded swift action from Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen and Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja, urging them to prioritise the security of Kenyans in the region.

They are now demanding urgent intervention from the Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen and the Inspector General of police, Douglas Kanja.
