The late Raila Odinga and I had agreed do whatever it takes to move Kenya from a third-world status to a first-world nation, President William Ruto has revealed.
Speaking during the State funeral service of the former Prime Minister, the late Raila Odinga at Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology (JOOUST), Ruto disclosed that the visited him to finalise on the roadmap that would lift Kenya to a first world status.
“In the last three months, Raila and I spent time together. We talked, we reflected, and we agreed that we must lift Kenya from a third-world status to a first-world nation,” President Ruto said.
During their visit the President disclosed that they discussed diverse issues of development ranging from infrastructure, energy, industrialisation among others.
The President noted that Raila underscored the need for investing in more energy noting that Kenya cannot move forward without enough energy.
“Raila proposed that we should at least generate another 10, 000 megawatts. Let me say this because there is no other moment for me to say this when he is here with us.” President Ruto revealed.
“We also agreed that we must extend the Standard Gauge Railway from Naivasha through Siaya to Malaba.
Similarly, President Ruto and the late PM discussed on extending the dual carriage way from Rironi through Nakuru through Eldoret to Malaba, as well as through Kericho to Kisumu to Malaba to prepare Kenya for the future.
“We also agreed to extend the dual carriage way from Rironi through Nakuru through Eldoret to Malaba, and through Kericho to Kisumu to Malaba. We discussed how to build a new airport and how we are going to expand our infrastructure.” He added.
Ruto thanked former President Uhuru Kenyatta for his role in fostering unity and supporting national development.
“I came to your office and explained what the Prime Minister and I had discussed a shared dream for our nation,” he said. “Raila believed in thinking big and breaking away from the ordinary. That courage to dream is what will lift Kenya to greatness.”
The late Odinga died on Wednesday in India while receiving treatment at the age of 80.
He has been laid to rest at the Kang’o ka Jaramogi in Bondo, Siaya County.
