Authorities have destroyed a consignment of sandalwood worth Ksh 7.8 million following a court directive.
The 7.8 tonne consignment was seized on September 21, 2025, at Ntunyu Village in Samburu County by a joint security team.
DCI said the destruction took place at the Maralal Police Station yard under the supervision of Senior Principal Magistrate Sitati Temba of Maralal Law Courts.
Members of the County Security and Intelligence Committee (CSIC), along with officers from the National Police Service (NPS), Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS), and Kenya Forest Service (KFS), also oversaw the process.
Two suspects, Francis Maina Waweru and Francis Kinuthia Karanja, accused of illegally harvesting and possessing sandalwood, have pleaded not guilty and remain in custody at Maralal GK Prison awaiting further court proceedings.
