Sawe wins Abbott Major Marathon as Obiri, Lokedi and Assefa split the women’s title

Hellen Obiri's win in New York ensured she retained her last year's title after ending the season tied on 41 points with her compatriot Sharon Lokedi and Ethiopia's Tigst Assefa .

Kenyan Sebastian Sawe was crowned the winner of the 2025 Abbott Major Marathon series for the first time, following the conclusion of the last race, the New York City Marathon, on Sunday evening.

Sawe won both the London and Berlin marathons to emerge the winner after accumulating 50 points, which earned him KSh 63 million.

Both the World Championship gold medalist, Alphonce Simbu from Tanzania, and the Chicago winner, Jacob Kiplimo of Uganda finished second with 41 points.

Hellen Obiri’s win in New York ensured she retained her last year’s title after ending the season tied on 41 points with her compatriot Sharon Lokedi and Ethiopia’s Tigst Assefa .

Race directors were unable to split the trio, who all had outstanding seasons, and decided they should share the title.

This means each of the three athletes will take home KSh 21 million.

Abbott Major Marathon series started with Tokyo Marathon,followed with Boston,London,Berlin,Chicago and New York.
