Three children aged four, two and one year old perished in a fire incident in Gachie village Kiambaa constituency, Kiambu County.

An eight-year-old boy was lucky to escape with injuries during the fire incident that occurred last night.

The area member of the county assembly Kabau Muthondu says the bodies of the three children have been taken to Kihara Level 4 hospital morgue, awaiting autopsy, while the injured boy has been admitted to the same hospital.

The area residents say they tried in vain to put out the fire with the Kiambu county fire engine arriving late at the scene.

The house owner, a night guard named John Ombasi, said he was informed of the incident and, upon arriving at his home, found everything had been reduced to ashes.

The fire is suspected to have started at 1 a.m. while the children’s single mother, identified as Cynthia, was away.

Muthondu has cautioned parents not to leave their children alone at home, especially at night. He also advised seeking assistance from neighbors and close friends to prevent such tragic incidents.

Police are investigating the cause of the fire.
