Former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka has urged Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan to reconsider her recent decision, which led to authorities in her country denying a group of Kenyans entry to Dar es Salaam.

In a speech on Monday, President Suluhu made it clear that authorities were under instructions to prevent anyone from interfering in her country’s affairs.

“Tumeanza kuona mtiririko au mwenendo wa wanaharakati ndani ya region yetu hii kuwaza, kuvamia na kuingililia mambo yetu. Kama kwao wameshadhibitiwa wasije kutuharibia huku,” she stated.

“Nawaomba sana vyombo vya ulinzi na usalama, na ninyi wasimamizi wa sera zetu za nje kutokutoa nafasi kwa watovu wa adabu wa nchi nyingine kuja hapa kwetu, hapana!” Suluhu added.

However, Kalonzo says this directive does not bode well for the East African community, given that the two nations have always been good neighbours.

“I would like to ask President Suluhu Hassan to reconsider this whole matter. She should not view Kenyans as enemies. Firstly, Tanzanians and Kenyans have intermarried. I respectfully urge her to ensure that the relationships in East Africa are genuinely reflected, with everyone showing respect for one another,” said Kalonzo.

The Wiper leader stated that Kenyans would not interfere in Tanzania’s affairs, but noted that if any concerns arise, the leaders should address them directly through dialogue.

“Integration does not mean simply meeting in Arusha and then everyone going their separate ways. It is about integrating our values so that if there are issues, we work together to resolve them,” he remarked.
