Woman arrested at JKIA with drugs to be arraigned in court

A 26-year-old woman arrested at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) for attempting to smuggle cocaine will be arraigned in court today.

Wendy Mbeke Muli, was intercepted by Anti-Narcotics detectives after she attempted to sneak the drugs by ingesting pellets, in a desperate move to evade arrest.

Detectives became suspicious of her due to her uneasy demeanour. Upon routine screening, the alarm went off, prompting further search.

It was soon established that she had concealed foreign substances inside her body cavity, prompting immediate medical observation.

“Mbeke was intercepted by hawk-eyed detectives on June 13, 2025, at around 10:00 a.m., just minutes before boarding an outbound flight.. Later that day, Mbeke requested to use the washrooms, where she excreted two pellets”, the DCI said.

“ The following day, June 14, while still under observation, she excreted six more pellets, bringing the total to eight pellets”, it added

The recovered pellets contained cocaine weighing approximately 626.65 grams.
