King Mohammed VI led Morocco on Tuesday in celebrating his 26th anniversary since his accession to the throne, taking stock of his achievements and announcing new priorities for the future.
The royal address highlighted the challenges of consolidating development, territorial justice, and national unity.
Reviewing the milestones set since his accession to the throne in 1999, the King underlined the relevance of the strategic choices adopted over the long term.
“Despite a difficult global economic climate and the prolonged effects of drought, the Moroccan economy remains resilient. The Sovereign highlighted the industrial dynamic that has been set in motion, with the rise of key sectors such as the automotive, aeronautics, renewable energies, tourism, and agri-food industries.” The King stated
The King hailed the progress made in terms of infrastructure, citing in particular the ongoing extension of the High Speed Line (LGV) to Marrakech and structuring projects in terms of water and energy security, as well as the ongoing modernisation of the territory.
According to the Sovereign, these investments are aimed not only at sustaining growth but also at promoting social and territorial equity throughout the Kingdom.
On the social front, the royal address highlighted the significant decline in multidimensional poverty, from 11.9% in 2014 to 6.8% in 2024, as well as Morocco’s move into the category of countries with high human development.
Nevertheless, the King deplored the persistence of inequalities, particularly in rural areas, stressing that this reality cannot be tolerated in today’s Morocco.
He called for a new generation of territorial development programs, built around local specificities and regional solidarity. He added that the programs will be built around four pillars: job creation, strengthening basic social services (education and health), sustainable management of water resources, and integrated territorial upgrading.
With a view to the legislative elections scheduled for 2026, King Mohammed VI stressed the need to draw up and adopt a new Electoral Code before the end of 2025.
He also called for broad political consultations to ensure rigorous, transparent, and inclusive preparations for the elections.
On a regional level, the Sovereign reiterated his policy of extending a helping hand to Algeria, calling for sincere and constructive dialogue between the two neighbouring countries, united by history, culture, and geography.
He also expressed his satisfaction at the growing international support for Morocco’s autonomy proposal for the Sahara, citing the United Kingdom, Portugal, the United States, and France in particular.
The Speech from the Throne 2025 is a continuation of a national modernisation project based on inclusion, equity, and sovereignty. A call to action and collective responsibility to build a Morocco that is stronger, more united, and more open to the world.
