800m Olympic champion Emmanuel Wanyonyi and 3,000m Olympic bronze medalist Faith Cherotich and Nelly Chepchirchir were crowned the 2025 Diamond League champions as the season culminated on Thursday night in Zurich, Switzerland.
Wanyonyi, who is also a world silver medalist over the distance, had to dig deep to shake off stiff competition from Great Britain’s Max Burgin to secure his third successive Diamond League 800m crown.
Wanyonyi, who set a world lead of 1:41.44 in Monaco, led off the final bend and surged in the last 50 m to claim victory in 1:42.37, with Burgin coming 2nd in 1:42.42 as Canada’s world champion Marco Arop settled for 3rd position in 1:42.57.

Faith Cherotich won her 2nd 3000msc Diamond League trophy after claiming victory in 8:57.24, relegating Kazakhstan’s Kenyan-born Norah Jeruto to 2nd position in 9:10.87, while Marwa Bouzayani of Tunisia completed the podium positions in 9:12.03.
Nelly Chepchirchir won her first diamond trophy after emerging victorious in the 1500m in 3 minutes 56.99 seconds, ahead of the Australian duo Jessica Hull and Linden Hall, who finished in 2nd and 3rd positions, respectively.
