Organic farmers in Githunguri constituency, Kiambu County, have launched a dedicated market for organic farm produce.
The market will serve as a hub for storage, value addition, and sale of organic produce sourced strictly from registered organic farmers.
The initiative was facilitated by organizations promoting organic farming under the umbrella of PELUM Kenya with an aim of giving consumers confidence by distinguishing organic products from conventional ones.
Speaking during the launch, George Boro, a representative from PELUM Kenya, said consumers had long faced challenges in identifying genuine organic produce in regular markets.
“With this market, buyers will have no doubts as it is strictly organic,” he said.
Farmers welcomed the move, noting that they have previously struggled to sell their produce in general markets where organic goods are often undervalued and sometimes not recognized.
They expressed optimism that the new market will improve sales and boost their livelihoods.
Promoters of the initiative also encouraged more farmers to adopt organic farming, citing its long-term benefits.
Kenyans were further urged to embrace organic produce for healthier living while supporting local farmers.
