Principal Secretaries will on Monday, October 6, be deployed to all 47 counties to spearhead the rollout of the National Youth Opportunities Towards Advancement (NYOTA) Project.
President William Ruto said the PSs will meet governors, MPs, MCAs and local administrators to sensitise leaders and youth on the initiative, which seeks to support hundreds of young people across the country.
The Ksh5 billion programme, implemented in partnership with the World Bank, will provide Ksh50,000 grants to 70 young people selected from each of the 1,450 wards nationwide.
Ruto, who convened a planning meeting with the PSs at State House, Nairobi on Friday said the whole-of-government approach adopted will ensure smooth coordination and fairness in implementation of the project.
“By involving leaders from the Executive, Legislature, and county governments, the process will be transparent and inclusive, ensuring that every young person has a fair chance to benefit,” he said.
The NYOTA Project is a five-year government initiative aimed at tackling youth joblessness, boosting income opportunities, and nurturing entrepreneurship, wealth creation, and a savings mindset.
The programme seeks to benefit 100,000 young people aged 18 to 29, with the age limit extended to 35 for persons with disabilities.
So far, the project has drawn massive interest, with more than 1.4 million applications submitted for its business support window through the Hustler Fund platform.
