Residents of Nyandarua County have been urged to take pride in the county’s rich resources, avoid divisive politics, and take advantage of government programs such as NYOTA, which has allocated 1,750 slots for local youth.

Tourism Cabinet Secretary Rebecca Miano and Transport Principal Secretary Eng. Joseph Mbugua made the remarks while speaking at Mwiteithie Primary School in Kinangop, during a community engagement on environmental conservation and youth empowerment during Mazinga Day.

CS Miano noted that Kenya has so far planted 1.5 billion trees towards its national target of 15 billion under the ongoing reforestation campaign.

She lauded President William Ruto for leading the initiative by example and encouraged citizens to actively support the greening agenda.

“Nyandarua is the country’s food basket. We are blessed with fertile soils and productive land—let’s be proud of our county and make full use of it. Much of the food consumed across the country comes from here,” said Miano. “Let us reject divisive politics and disunity. Ours is a special county known for productivity and potential.”

PS Mbugua announced the distribution of over 5,000 tree and fruit seedlings as part of the national tree-planting drive.

He emphasized the importance of youth participation in national development and urged them to register for the NYOTA Program, which offers training and employment opportunities for young people.

“Nyandarua has been allocated 1,750 NYOTA slots, meaning each sub-county will have 70 youths benefiting from the program. This is a golden opportunity for our young people to gain skills and secure their future,” said Mbugua.

The leaders reiterated the need for unity, environmental stewardship, and youth empowerment as key pillars for sustainable development in Nyandarua and the country at large.
