After years of neglect and frustration, residents of Rainbow, Agape, Bypass among other villages in Gatong’ora Ward in Ruiru Sub-County can finally breathe a sigh of relief as the government prepares to reconstruct the long-forgotten Rainbow–Juja Farm road.

The 27-kilometre stretch, which has been in a deplorable state since its botched construction during the reign of former governor Ferdinand Waititu, is now set for a complete overhaul under the supervision of the Kenya Rural Roads Authority (KeRRA) in collaboration with the Kiambu County Government.

The road, once touted as a key connector between several villages and the Eastern Bypass, quickly deteriorated after completion, leaving residents stranded and businesses crippled.

The poor workmanship led to massive potholes, flooding, and sections that became nearly impassable, especially during the rainy season.

For years, locals have endured hardships ranging from inaccessibility to healthcare facilities to high transportation costs for farm produce and goods. The rehabilitation of the road marks a significant milestone in efforts to boost social and economic development in the area.

The improved infrastructure is expected to spur business growth, enhance mobility, and attract new investments, particularly in the expanding Juja and Ruiru regions.

Once completed, the road will provide an alternative route to the Eastern Bypass, helping to decongest traffic towards key destinations such as Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.

During a public participation forum convened by Gatong’ora Ward MCA Dan Gitau, residents expressed optimism that the new project will finally end the years of suffering they have endured.

On his part, Gitau reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring that the road is built to modern standards, noting that transparency and public oversight will be key to avoiding past mistakes.
