The Kenya Civil Aviation Authority has announced temporary suspension of all operations at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.

According to KCAA Director General Emile Arao, the two hour suspension has been occasioned by security situation at the facility following the arrival of the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.

“A large number of mourners gained access to restricted areas, prompting a precautionary closure to allow security teams to restore order and ensure safety,” he added.

Huge crowd of mourners had made their way to JKIA to receive the remains of the ODM leader who passed on yesterday morning in India while undergoing treatment.

Arao has urged travellers using the airport to remain calm and not to access the facility until further notice.

“Normal operations will resume once the airport is secure in the next two hours. A NOTAM of the same has been issued,” he added
