Amid growing international support for Morocco’s autonomy plan and sovereignty over the Sahara, Paraguay yesterday made clear its position on this regional dispute by announcing the opening of a Consulate General.
During his meeting in Rabat with Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccans Abroad Nasser Bourita, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Paraguay Rubén Ramírez Lezcano, reaffirmed his country’s full support for Morocco’s sovereignty over its Sahara and for the autonomy initiative presented by the Kingdom in 2007, considered the only serious, credible, and realistic basis for the settlement of the regional dispute.
The Paraguayan foreign minister announced his country’s decision to open a Consulate General in the southern provinces in the near future, as a clear sign of support for the Kingdom’s territorial integrity.
This position is in line with Asunción’s withdrawal of recognition of the puppet entity in 2014, as well as with a series of joint statements and political consultations that have since consolidated Paraguay’s support for Morocco’s national cause.
For its part, on October 29, 2025, in Rabat, the Kingdom of Eswatini reaffirmed its support for Morocco’s territorial integrity, the Kingdom’s sovereignty over its Sahara, and the autonomy plan as the “only credible, serious, and realistic solution” to the regional dispute.
This position was reiterated by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Kingdom of Eswatini, Pholile Dlamini Shakantu, on the sidelines of the 1st session of the
Joint Cooperation Commission between Morocco and Eswatini, during talks with her Moroccan counterpart Nasser Bourita, focusing in particular on the excellent relations between the two countries and ways of strengthening their multisectoral cooperation.
On this occasion, the Eswatini foreign minister reiterated her country’s consistent position and reaffirmed its support for Morocco’s territorial integrity and sovereignty over its entire territory, including the Moroccan Sahara region.
It should be noted that the Kingdom of Eswatini opened a consulate general in Laâyoune in October 2020.
