Electric vehicle manufacturer MojaEV has announced plans to set up a new assembly plant in Mombasa County with a capacity to produce 5000 units annually.
MojaEv Kenya Chief Executive Officer Wang Ai Ping said the firm has already identified a site in in the coastal city of Mombasa where operations are scheduled to begin in January next year.
According to Ai, the new plant will launch with Semi-Knocked Down (SKD) assembly, allowing vehicles to be imported in parts and assembled locally.
The e-mobility firm expects to assemble at least 3000 units annually during the first phase before scaling up production to reach 5000 units annually in the second and third phases according to the demand.
MojaEV says the plant will focus exclusively on electric vehicles, aiming to strengthen Kenya’s supply of affordable and reliable EV options.
During the handover of 30 Neta Electric Vehicle to County Bus Services Limited (CBUS), MojaEV said it has already imported two test Matatu units and plans to distribute more models once local assembly begins.
“Today’s milestone demonstrates that electric mobility is no longer a future concept; it is happening now, at scale, and making real impact for our drivers, businesses, and communities,” she Achieng Anam, MojaEV Sales Director.
The new plant is further expected to create new job opportunities as well as conduct training for technicians on the assembly process in a bid to help in shift from SKD to full manufacturing.
