Kengen boosts drivers ahead of 2026 WRC Safari Rally

Kenya Electricity Generating Company PLC (KenGen) has formalized its support for rally drivers Azeli Ishmael, Andrew Muiruri, and Rwandan driver Queen Kalimpinya ahead of the 2026 WRC Safari Rally set for March12-15, 2026.

The initiative underscores the Company’s commitment to nurturing regional motorsport talent and strengthening Kenya’s competitive presence on the global rally stage.

‘’Supporting local drivers is not symbolic, it is strategic. We are investing in Kenyan talent and reinforcing our country’s competitive presence on the world stage. Additionally, KenGen is supporting Queen Kalimpinya from Rwanda. This partnership aligns with the Company’s business diversification agenda, particularly in advancing geothermal development and strengthening strategic presence across the African continent’’,remarked KENGEN Managing Director and  CEO Eng.Peter Njenga.

While noting that the World Rally Championship was an event for Kenya to showcase its tourism, it also counted as an opportunity to for the country to exhibit its picturesque beauty.

Kengen’s partnership is also spread across several aspects including green energy,luxury hospitality, adventure tourism, and multimedia amplification.

Eighteen Kenyan drivers will be among the 46 crews that will compete at the WRC Safari Rally Kenya, which will also serve as the first round of the Kenya National Rally Championship.

Toyota Gazoo’s Elfyn Evans will be seeking to extend Toyota’s stranglehold of Safari Rally with the Welshman set to defend his title.
