Safaricom beats rivals in delivering quality service to users

A new survey by the Communications Authority shows that Safaricom Plc mobile network subscribers in Kenya enjoy superior services compared to those in rivals networks.

The latest quality of service performance report by the authority shows that out of the three mobile network operators which were assessed based was based on End-to-End QoS, Network Performance and Quality of Experience (QoE), Safaricom offered the best services compared to Airtel Kenya and Telkom.

“The results for National End-to-End Drive test, indicates that Safaricom exceeded the 80pc target by registering performance of 90.36pc, while Airtel and Telkom performed below the 80pc target by registering 76.47pc and 47.94pc, respectively,” said CA in the report.

Safaricom which currently has 51 million subscribers compared to Airtel’s 24 million and Telkom’s 868, 788 subscribers offered better call, data and SMS services in all the five regions where tests were conducted.

On network performance which includes parameters including Unsuccessful Call Ratio (Call Block Rate), Call
Drop Rate, Handover Success Rate, Data Service Access Rate and Data Service Availability, Safaricom and Airtel scored 100pc compared to Telkom’s 60pc.

The Quality of Service Performance for MNO for the full year period to December last year also shows that Safaricom customers experienced higher satisfaction with the network’s services after scoring 70pc compared to Airtel, and Telkom at 68.4pc and 60pc respectively.

“This performance is lower than previous year where the ratings for Safaricom, Airtel, and Telkom were 77.6pc, 69.7pc and 64.2pc, respectively,” said CA.

Nonetheless, overall performance shows that only Safaricom and Airtel attained the required threshold of 80pc after scoring 89.72pc 81.14pc respectively % while Telkom failed after scoring 52.76pc.
