The requiem mass for the 16 people who perished in a road accident on the Nyeri-Nyahururu highway on Saturday will be held on April 7th.

Announcing the date on his Facebook page, Nyeri Governor Dr Mutahi Kahiga said that the joint committee formed to coordinate the burial preparations had settled for the Nyeri ASK Kabiru-ini grounds as the venue for the interdenominational service.

He said that all 16 victims had by Tuesday evening been identified by their relatives.

Out of 16 victims, 11 are from Nyeri County while others are from Meru, Kitui, Kirinyaga, Kiambu and Machakos counties.

Dr Kahiga said that the county has already made plans for the affected families to receive counselling to help them cope with the loss.

He noted that the committee will foot all funeral expenses including the post-mortem fee.

The postmortem exercise started on Tuesday at the County Referral funeral home will be completed Thursday (tomorrow).

Similarly, the six survivors of the grisly road crash are in stable condition and currently recuperating at various health facilities.
