Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has announced that President William Ruto’s campaign team is strategising for a resounding and petition-free victory in the 2027 General Election.
While urging Kenyans to give the President a second term through the ballot, Mudavadi said the campaign would operate within democratic and constitutional boundaries to ensure Ruto wins a clear mandate from voters and avoid the post-election disputes that have marred previous elections.
“When we talk about two-term, let us also emphasise on a petition-free win for President Ruto. Petitions always make the country pull in different directions causing tension and a tense mood. We have witnessed these scenarios since the late President Mwai Kibaki’s second term win and the subsequent elections. We want to change this trend,” Mudavadi declared.
He added, “We are assembling our campaign team, and our strategy is to do everything within democratic confines to ensure Ruto wins.”
Mudavadi affirmed that Ruto’s case for re-election would primarily rest on his administration’s development achievements and its efforts to unite the country under the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda.
He criticised opposition leaders who have vowed to reverse policies implemented by the Kenya Kwanza administration, which enjoys broad government support. Mudavadi challenged them to articulate what alternative solutions they would offer Kenyans.
“When you say you will reverse the policies that have led to the employment of an additional more than 76,000 teachers, the progress within the affordable housing programme, the gains in the health sector, the construction of roads and markets among other gains, what is your agenda for the future of this country?” Mudavadi questioned.
He further cited government investment in education, classroom construction, agricultural interventions, and fertiliser subsidies as evidence of progress under President Ruto’s leadership.
“We have seen the education sector benefit from a budgetary allocation of Ksh780 billion, an additional 23,000 classes constructed under President Ruto’s leadership, significant gains in the agriculture sector, fertiliser subsidies, and maize production hitting 70 million tonnes. Yet, you are busy telling Kenyans that Ruto has done nothing. That is hypocrisy,” he asserted.
Mudavadi also highlighted Kenya’s foreign exchange reserves as an indicator of improved economic resilience, noting their increase from $5 billion to $15 billion, providing approximately six months of import cover.
He argued that this stronger reserve position has enabled Kenya to continue importing essential commodities, including fuel, steel, fertiliser, and gas, despite external shocks like instability in the Middle East.
Mudavadi accused the opposition of making unsubstantiated claims and cautioned Kenyans against entrusting national leadership to individuals driven by bitterness, revenge, or ethnic politics.
“Mtu anaamka asubuhi akiimba tu ukabila, chai ya saa nne ukabila, lunch time ukabila, supper ukabila, hata akilala ukabila. Then he is busy traversing the country telling Kenyans to vote for him. Haya ni maajabu,” he remarked.
Despite the opposition’s confidence in their majority support to secure victory against Ruto, Mudavadi warned them against underestimating the President. He predicted they would be surprised by the number of Kenyans who would vote to re-elect Ruto.
“Naskia tu wanasema we have numbers. Hawa hawajui kile wanachosema. Our youth, I call on you to register in large numbers, ndio tukutane na hawa watu kwa debe next year,” he urged.
Mudavadi made the remarks during the Annual Kaimosi Agricultural Research and Training Centre Agricultural Expo in Emgwen, Nandi County. There, he launched a Food and Agriculture Organization-supported curriculum and officially opened new student hostels.
He also announced that work was underway to expand and rehabilitate the Eldoret-Chavakali road and improve feeder roads connecting Nandi, Vihiga, and Kakamega counties. Mudavadi said infrastructure, education, agriculture, and regional integration would remain crucial components of the government’s development agenda as the country approaches the 2027 election.
