President William Ruto’s aide, Farouk Kibet, has backed National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula to succeed the President in 2032.

Kibet made the remarks during an empowerment drive in support of BUCOE SACCO at St Francis Milima Comprehensive School in Likuyani Constituency, Kakamega County, where Western Kenya leaders endorsed Wetang’ula’s bid for the presidency.

Kibet said Wetang’ula’s national leadership experience, political skills and record as Speaker of the National Assembly made him suitable to succeed Ruto.

“We have seen the selflessness of Wetang’ula as a national leader, his leadership skills and wisdom as National Speaker, and indeed his astuteness as a statesman. He fits the bill to succeed President Ruto,” said Kibet.

Wetang’ula, who was the chief guest, used the occasion to campaign for Ruto’s re-election, saying the administration had demonstrated its commitment to equitable development across the country.

“I stand before you, my people, and I want to tell you that I will do my best to ensure that this Government enters a second term for the sustainability and continued development of this region and indeed the entire Country,” said Wetang’ula.

He cited reforms in the sugarcane sector, including cheaper fertiliser and improved access to markets, as well as the completion of infrastructure projects initiated under previous administrations.

“We have seen reforms in the sugarcane sector, including cheaper fertilizer, a market for our produce, and the completion of infrastructure projects, including those either promised or launched by the former administrations. President Ruto clearly deserves reelection,” he added.

Wetang’ula also urged Kenyans to uphold national unity and reject what he described as a growing culture of goonism, warning that it posed a threat to electoral processes and national security.

“Your greatest weapon is your national ID card and voter registration, so that you can shape your destiny and that of the country for the sake of current and future generations,” he said.

Western Kenya leaders at the event said the region should produce the country’s next President after Ruto’s two terms, with Wetang’ula emerging as their preferred candidate.

Likuyani MP Innocent Mugabe backed Ruto’s re-election, citing his development record and efforts to promote national unity.

“We will do our best to deliver on President Ruto’s second term as we lay out 2032 strategies for Wetang’ula to be the sixth President of Kenya,” said Mugabe.

Mugabe said Wetang’ula understood the region’s political history and had a vision for its political future and that of the country.

“Wetang’ula, as our leader, knows not only the journey through the political history of this region but also bears the vision for its political future and indeed the country’s. We will walk this journey with our eyes on the ultimate prize in 2032,” he added.

Navakholo MP Emanuel Wangwe said Western Kenya had benefited significantly from the Ruto administration and urged residents to safeguard the gains by supporting his re-election.

“We have seen many reforms, especially in the sugarcane sector, under President Ruto. Our best bet to safeguard this is through the reelection of the Broadbased Government next year, as we prepare Wetang’ula for President in 2032,” said Wangwe.

Butere MP Tindi Mwale and Malava MP David Ndakwa were among other leaders who attended the event
