The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) said detectives launched a manhunt for the suspect, identified as Ezekiel Nyongesa Barasa, after he went into hiding.

Detectives eventually traced and arrested Barasa, who was subjected to an identification parade where witnesses positively identified him.

Further investigations have since linked the suspect to another alleged killing involving an 86-year-old woman in Tongaren, Bungoma County.

Preliminary investigations have also established that Barasa may have sexually assaulted Khosa before her death.

The DCI said detectives are conducting forensic examinations and pursuing other lines of inquiry to reconstruct the events and establish the circumstances surrounding the two alleged offences.

The suspect remains in police custody as detectives piece together evidence ahead of his arraignment.
