A Chinese company has received approval to commence mining operations in the Tiaty area of Baringo County starting July this year.

The firm, Chuanshan International, has been granted a mining licence to extract diatomite in the region.

“As a government, we keep our doors open to genuine investors in the mining sector who prioritize the welfare of the communities where they extract minerals,” said Mining and Blue Economy Cabinet Secretary Hassan Joho while introducing the company to local leaders and residents on Saturday.

“As part of the Government’s commitment to fostering resource-based industrial development, I have today launched the first mining company in Tiaty for the exploitation of diatomite,” stated the CS.

This development comes after the company fulfilled regulatory requirements to launch operations in an area believed to have deposits of various minerals.

“Tiaty Constituency is rich in extractive resources such as diatomite, fluorspar, and rubies. If sustainably harnessed, these resources have the potential to transform the lives of the people and significantly boost the country’s GDP,” the CS remarked.

The upcoming mining operations by Chuanshan International are expected to contribute to the local economy.

“The company will create over 250 skilled jobs within the community and promote foreign exchange through diatomite exports,” Joho added.

Company executives promised to engage in development initiatives for the benefit of the local community.

“We hope to complete the construction of our factory soon. We just don’t want to drive the development of the local mining industry and economy, but also improve the living standards of the local people,” said Han Qinbin from the company

Joho was accompanied by Mining Principal Secretary Harry Kimtai, Tiaty MP William Kamket, Baringo Woman Representative Florence Jematiah, and other national and local leaders.
