Kwale County Governor Fatuma Achani led a 530 Galla Goats distribution across the 11 wards in Kwale as part of her administration efforts to improve the local breeds aimed at improving livelihoods, enhancing food security and increasing household incomes particularly for arid and semi arid areas of Kinango and LungaLunga Subcounties.
The Kwale County Government for the past 2 years has distributed over 5000 Galla Goats to kwale Livestock’ keepers with over 900 Galla and Dairy Goats have been distributed to livestock keepers by Kwale County Governor Fatuma Achani for the last one month.
Addressing Ndavaya Residents during the issuance of Galla Goats, Kwale County Governor Fatuma Achani said that her administration will continue to mitigate the effects of climate change especially in drought prone areas of Kinango and LungaLunga Subcounties through programs that are beneficial and sustainable to the residents.
“The Gala Goats we are giving are the best breed that can withstand harsh climatic conditions and they are also good because they will improve our local breeds thus increase both meat and milk production for the livestock keepers in Kwale “Achani Said.
On his part Kwale County Deputy Governor Chirema Kombo during the distribution drive of 80 Galla Goats for Macknon and Samburu Chengon Wards called upon the residents to support Governor Fatuma Achani administration programs that have transformed the lives of Kwale residents.
“It is commendable for what our Governor is doing because in few years to come all our local breeds will fade out and will be replaced by the improved breeds that will yield good income through increase of meat and milk “Chirema Said.
Rocky Kamanza, one of the beneficiaries, expressed his gratitude and support for the initiative.
“The government is already fulfilling its manifesto. Galla goats will fetch better market prices compared to our local breeds once they are ready for sale.”Kamanza Said.
The wards that received the Galla Goats include: Ndavaya, Puma, Samburu/Chengoni, Mackinnon Road, Mwavumbo, Kasemeni, Mwereni, Mkongani, Tsimba/Golini, Dzombo, Gombato Bongwe, Ukunda, and Kinondo.
The Galla Goats Distribution drive is both a floca program, and Kemfsed project in partnership with Kwale County Government and the National Government funded by the World Bank.
