President William Ruto has nominated Dr. Amani Yuda Komora as the Chairperson of the National Police Service Commission (NPSC), following recommendations from the Selection Panel overseeing the recruitment process.
Ms. Angeline Yiamiton Siparo from Narok County has also been nominated to serve on the Commission. The other members are Peris Muthoni Kimani (Kiambu), Edwin Cheluget (Nandi), Benjamin Juma Imai (Bungoma), and Prof. Collette A. Suda (Migori).
The names have been forwarded to the National Assembly for vetting and approval, after which they will be formally appointed.
“This presidential action follows the recommendation of the Selection Panel appointed to recruit nominees for appointment as Chairperson and Members of the National Police Service Commission (NPSC), as published vide Kenya Gazette Notice No. 1181. If the nominees receive the nod of approval of Parliament, the Commission will now be constituted as follows….”, reads the notification signed by Head of Public Service Felix Koskei.
Dr. Komora, who holds a Doctoral Degree (PhD) in Human Resource Management from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology, is the immediate former Vice-Chairperson of the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC).
Before joining SRC, he had served as the General Manager, Human Resource and Administration at the Kenya Ports Authority (KPA), Assistant Commissioner, Human Resources at the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) and Member of the National General Wages Council.
Mandate
The National Police Service Commission (NPSC) is established pursuant to Article 246(1) of the Constitution. Its primary mandate is to recruit and appoint individuals to hold or act in offices within the National Police Service.
The Commission is also responsible for confirming appointments, determining promotions and transfers within the Service, and, subject to due process, exercising disciplinary control over and removing persons holding or acting in such offices.
