The Office of the Data Protection Commission has kicked off a sensitisation campaign aimed at raising awareness on the importance of personal data protection.

Speaking during a stakeholder engagement meeting, Emmanuel Kasait, the Data Commissioner, emphasized the need for institutions and individuals who handle personal data in the course of their duties to adhere strictly to data protection regulations.

Kasait issued a stern warning to those who misuse personal data for personal gain, stating that such actions are in direct violation of the Data Protection Act and will attract legal consequences.

As part of its ongoing efforts to ensure compliance, the Office of the Data Protection Commission plans to carry out data inspections across key sectors, including education, hospitality, and property management.

These inspections are intended to verify that appropriate measures are in place to safeguard personal data and uphold the rights of data subjects.

The Commission reiterates its commitment to fostering a culture of accountability, transparency, and responsibility in the handling of personal information.
