The 2026 China International Press Communication Center (CIPCC) programme has officially opened in Beijing, marking a new chapter in international media engagement and cross-cultural exchange, with journalists from over 90 countries participating.
Organised by the China Public Diplomacy Association under the guidance of China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the programme aims to enhance global understanding through journalism, diplomacy, leadership dialogue, and cultural interaction at a time when international cooperation and balanced storytelling are becoming increasingly essential.
Speaking during the opening ceremony, China’s Assistant Foreign Minister Hong Lei underscored the growing responsibility of journalists in shaping constructive global narratives and strengthening people to people connections. He noted that the media remains a powerful force in promoting mutual understanding, peace, development, and cooperation among nations.

President of the China Public Diplomacy Association, Wu Hailong, described the initiative as more than a media programme, saying it is a platform designed to cultivate global communicators with broader perspectives on international affairs, governance, innovation, and development. He encouraged participants to embrace dialogue, professional exchange, and cultural learning as essential pillars in fostering stronger international relations.
Over the next three months, participants will undergo extensive engagements focusing on diplomacy, leadership, economic transformation, technological advancement, governance, media innovation, cultural heritage, and sustainable development. The journalists will also participate in academic forums, policy discussions, newsroom exchanges, and field visits across different provinces in China to gain firsthand experience of the country’s modernization journey and evolving role on the global stage.
The programme places significant emphasis on understanding how communication can bridge cultures, strengthen partnerships, and contribute to global development through informed and responsible journalism. Participants are expected to interact with diplomats, scholars, policymakers, entrepreneurs, and leading Chinese media institutions in a bid to broaden professional perspectives and enhance international collaboration.

Beyond the newsroom, the initiative also offers a deeper appreciation of Chinese civilization, traditions, and contemporary society, creating a platform where cultures converge and ideas are exchanged in an atmosphere of learning and cooperation.
Kenya is represented in the programme by Gladys Mungai, a distinguished news anchor and political reporter at the Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC). Known for her incisive political coverage, authoritative newsroom presence, and in depth reporting on governance and parliamentary affairs, Mungai joins the global cohort as part of a new generation of African journalists shaping impactful and balanced international storytelling.
As the world becomes increasingly interconnected, programmes such as CIPCC continue to highlight the evolving role of journalism not only as a tool for information, but also as a bridge for diplomacy, cultural understanding, and shared global progress.
