City Lawyer linked to Ksh 1.5B fraud released arraigned in court

A City lawyer Esther Bitutu Kadiki who has been arraigned in connection with the theft of Ksh 1.5 Billion from Equity bank has been ordered to deposit Ksh 30 million in court to secure her freedom as investigations continue.

Her arraignment comes after the Directorate of Criminal Investigation Banking Fraud Unit unearthed the suspect believed to have aided in siphoning the loot.

The Banking Fraud Unit through Office of Director of Public Prosecution  were at Milimani Chief Magistrates Court from Tuesday seeking 14 days to detain Nairobi lawyer Esther Bitutu Kadiki over the Ksh 1.5 Billion alleged to have been fraudulently obtained from Equity Bank.

Chief Magistrate Lucas Onyina on Wednesday ordered her to deposit a Ksh 30M bond and be reporting to the Investigating Unit whenever she is summoned.

Elsewhere, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations has been granted 14 days to detain two murder suspects pending investigations.

Felix Ochieng and Rydon Majoni who are Security officers at VIP Club in Nairobi’s CBD allegedly killed an unknown male adult.

Investigators said the duo attacked a reveler at the club and inflicted serious injuries that led to his death after he was allegedly found with a stolen mobile phone.

The case will be mentioned on 21st May 2025.

And in Mombasa, an Imam has been charged with defiling a 14-year-old boy. Ahmed Malau is accused of sodomizing the minor on the 28th of April this year inside Mwijabu Mosque, Marikiti area of Mombasa.

Appearing before Mombasa Senior Resident Magistrate David Odhiambo, the accused denied the charges and was released on a Ksh 500,000 cash bail. Pre-trial of the case is set for 27th of this month.
