Public Service Cabinet Secretary Geoffrey Ruku has intensified his efforts to push for political realignment in Mt.Kenya region, using his visit to Kiambu County to highlight what he described as longstanding divisions within the region.
Ruku said Mount Kenya has been politically divided for years, dating back to the administrations of former President Mwai Kibaki and successive governments, arguing that he was only reminding residents of the region’s political history.
The CS made the remarks while attending a Sunday service at the Christian Church International (CCI) in Gatundu North, Kiambu County, where he was accompanied by Gatundu North MP Njoroge Kururia, Thika Town MP Alice Ng’ang’a and Taveta MP John Bwire.
Ruku said he holds no grudge against the people of Mount Kenya West, but took issue with critics, including leaders allied to the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP), who have accused him of seeking to divide the region.
He argued that politics is shaped by changing times and events, urging residents to embrace the emerging political realignments.
Gatundu South MP Elijah Njoroge backed Ruku’s position, saying the division of the larger Mount Kenya region could pave the way for the creation of a separate Kiambu region.
Njoroge argued that Kiambu would have a greater share of resources and representation if it operated as a region rather than remaining part of the larger Mount Kenya bloc.
Other leaders at the event reaffirmed their support for President William Ruto’s administration and backed the ongoing political realignment in Mount Kenya, as divisions continue to emerge between supporters and opponents of the President ahead of the 2027 General Election.
