All athletes intending to participate in the national trials for the Tokyo World Championships have until this Saturday, 24th May, to partake in a first no-notice out-of-competition anti-doping test.
In a communication sent to athletes from the Anti-Doping Agency of Kenya (ADAK) and Athletics Kenya, athletes who will not have complied by Saturday will automatically be locked out of the national trials.
ADAK and the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) require all athletes who intend to compete in the Tokyo world championships to undergo three mandatory anti-doping tests, with the first no-notice out-of-competition test to be done on or before 24th May 2025.
This mandatory testing is a crucial requirement stipulated under rule 15.5.1(c)(ii) of the World Athletics Anti-Doping Rules. Any athlete under the jurisdiction of Athletics Kenya whose first no-notice out-of-competition test is conducted after Saturday, May 24, 2025, will be deemed ineligible for selection to Team Kenya for the World Championships in Tokyo.
AK is set to conduct the national trials in July at the Nyayo Stadium to select a team for the 20th World Athletics Championships set for Tokyo, Japan, between 13th and 19th September this year.
