Kiambu County Government is exploring memorandums of understanding with some foreign countries who have been tapping firemen and women trained by the County Government’s fire rescue training centre.

Governor Kimani Wamatangi said approximately 300 firemen and women had gotten jobs outside countries, notable Middle East nations such as Qatar and Saudi Arabia, after training at the Kiambu Fire and Rescue Training Centre in Kiambu Town in partnership with the Polish Centre for International Aid.

Further, the governor said approximately 60 percent of firefighters in Kenya, including Kenya Airways, have benefited from training at the facility, which consists of the best international practices in firefighting, accident rescue, building tragedies, and national calamities.

Kiambu County yesterday hosted a delegation from Embu, which is on a benchmarking tour to study Kiambu’s acclaimed firefighting and emergency response system.

The visiting team, composed of Members of the Embu County Executive and County Assembly, is seeking to replicate Kiambu’s success in building an efficient, well-trained emergency response unit where demonstrations of life-saving skills were conducted at the upgraded drill yard that includes simulation structures for intensive training on road and fire accidents, urban search and rescue, first aid, and equipment handling.

The delegation was led by the Chief Officer of Housing, Physical Planning & Urban Development, Hellen Wanja, and the chairman of the County Assembly’s Committee on Administration, Devolution, Public Service, Governance and ICT, Philip Nzagi.

The group toured the Kiambu Fire and Emergency Training Centre, where they engaged with highly skilled personnel and observed the rigorous training programs that have placed Kiambu among the top counties in emergency response readiness.

The facility is widely recognised for its professionalism and has become a national benchmark for excellence in emergency management.

During a courtesy call to Governor Wamatangi, the delegation commended Kiambu’s emergency personnel for their expertise and preparedness, noting that the county’s responders have been instrumental not only locally but also in offering support to other counties during times of crisis.

Governor Wamatangi expressed pride in the county’s fire and emergency training centre, saying its personnel were also offering services outside the county.

Nzagi said Embu chose Kiambu for benchmarking due to its outstanding record and the competence of its emergency response teams.
