Security experts are calling for the professional training and equipping of close protection officers to prepare them for high-level roles in executive and VIP security, both locally and abroad.

Canik Spy Director General Peter Okul said there is growing demand for specialised close protection courses designed to produce highly skilled security professionals.

Speaking during the firm’s second graduation ceremony in Nairobi County, Okul said the newly trained officers have been equipped with advanced skills to enhance their career prospects and handle demanding assignments in the private security sector.

The Level 5 Close Protection Operative Course was cited as a high-tier qualification that extends beyond basic training to cover leadership, risk assessment and operational planning.

Private Security Regulatory Authority (PSRA) Training and Development Officer Daniel Mark warned against non-compliance by private security firms, stressing that only certified officers should be deployed for executive and VIP duties.

The level 4 and 5 security is a common system used by the state and organisations to assess and communicate risk to citizens and travellers.
