Huawei, in collaboration with the Konza Technopolis Development Authority, has launched an advanced contact center software platform that enables the Siaya Community Digital Hub to deliver Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) services.

This announcement took place during the launch of the Siaya Community Digital Hub, part of the Siaya Digital Summit 2026 at Bondo Township Primary School Grounds. The event, themed “Empowering Siaya’s Future: Digital Connectivity, Skills, Jobs, and Creative Economy for Sustainable Growth,” highlighted innovative strategies for digital skills development, job creation, and the expansion of Kenya’s creator economy.

Twenty youth have been trained to use the AI-powered software, enabling them to intelligently handle cases and provide customer service support across multiple channels, including messaging, web, and phone. The BPO can serve local counties and businesses as well as international clients, creating jobs for local youth and driving digital transformation in the region.

This is the first Digital Hub in Kenya to establish a BPO, and Huawei and Konza plan to replicate the model in other hubs across the country. AI technology supports the development of responses for customer service agents, automatically logs interactions, analyzes case records, and ensures maximum productivity, thus enabling services that can compete internationally. This innovation not only creates new job opportunities but also strengthens digital transformation in the region.

Commenting on the milestone, said Ruth Mokaya, Cloud Solutions Engineer at Huawei, “This initiative reflects the power of technology to transform communities. When young people are equipped with the right skills, they improve their own livelihoods while uplifting entire communities,” “Our mission is anchored on our global #Tech4All Initiative. Programs like the Jitume Digital Hubs empower communities, especially those in remote and rural areas, with the digital literacy needed to participate meaningfully in the digital economy. This aligns closely with the Government’s vision for a digitally empowered nation under the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda.”

Speaking at the summit, H.E. William Kabogo Gitau, Cabinet Secretary for Information, Communications and the Digital Economy, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring digital opportunities reach young people across Kenya.

“The success of Kenya’s digital transformation will ultimately be measured by how widely opportunities are shared. Talent exists everywhere, and our responsibility as government is to ensure that young people, regardless of where they live, have access to the infrastructure, skills, and platforms needed to participate in the digital economy,” said CS Kabogo.

He added, “This innovative partnership combines the capabilities of a tech leader such as Huawei and Konza’s Data Center with the infrastructure of the Digital Hubs, which have high-speed broadband and devices, to directly create jobs across the country. It also shows how AI can assist and support our youth to deliver online services at a globally competitive level.”

As part of  the summit, Huawei also trained 100 youth in practical digital skills, including networking, cabling, and ICT infrastructure management, as part of the globally recognized Huawei Certified ICT Associate (HCIA) program. These skills are critical for supporting Kenya’s Digital Superhighway, which continues to expand with over 100,000 km of fiber optic infrastructure.

“Rolling-out 100,000 km of fibre is creating jobs for our youth. This partnership between the Ministry of ICDE and Huawei taking place at the Siaya Community Digital Hub is exactly what the Hubs are intended to be for – collaborative capacity building at the grassroots to prepare our youth for jobs building, managing and maintaining infrastructure for the digital economy,” CS Kabogo emphasized.

John Paul Okwiri, CEO of Konza Technopolis Development Authority, highlighted the importance of hubs in nurturing digital talent and building a strong Digital Ecosystem. “Digital hubs such as this one play a critical role in nurturing innovation and providing young people with access to infrastructure, mentorship, and collaborative spaces. They are part of a broader ecosystem, including initiatives like Konza Digital Media City, designed to empower creators, developers, and digital professionals with world-class opportunities,” he noted.

Olivier Ogawa, one of the 20 beneficiaries trained in BPO skills Huawei training program shared: “Through the training, I gained practical skills in digital communication and customer support systems that can be applied in the BPO industry and other online work opportunities. These skills give us the confidence to compete for digital jobs and generate income from wherever we are.”

The Siaya Community Digital Hub is part of the government’s Jitume Digital Hubs programme, which aims to establish hubs across all 1,450 administrative wards in Kenya, creating accessible spaces for youth to acquire digital skills, collaborate, and participate in the digital economy. To date, 290 hubs have been established nationwide, benefiting over 400,000 young people.

“With over 75% of Kenya’s population under the age of 35, empowering youth with digital skills has become central to economic transformation. The Siaya Community Digital Hub will serve as a collaborative space where youth can access connectivity, acquire practical digital skills, and explore opportunities in remote work, freelancing, digital content creation, and business process outsourcing,” Ruth Other said.

The summit concluded with a strong call for continued collaboration between government, private sector partners, and communities to ensure digital transformation translates into tangible opportunities for young people across the country.

“Kenya’s digital future will be built not only in our major cities but in counties across the country where young people are ready to innovate, create, and lead,” CS Kabogo said.
