FKF launches inaugural beach soccer league in Kwale

Football Kenya Federation has moved to bolster the prospects of beach soccer by announcing the launch of the beach soccer league in Kwale County.

The league which is ongoing is expected to end in Mid-august with a total of 16 men’s teams and 8 ladies sides participating.All the clubs are drawn from Kwale County.

Meanwhile the league got a major financial boost after receiving a Ksh.1Million sponsorship from Kentaste Company.

FKF President Hussein Mohammed said the move is a right step in uplifting the football standards and opening up the sports ecosystem at the Kenya’s coastal towns.

“This initiative reflects our renewed focus on empowering FKF Branches to lead in grassroots football. We are grateful to Kentaste for their support, which will boost the development of beach soccer in Kwale and beyond. As Kenya prepares to host the CECAFA Beach Soccer Championship in June 2025, this league forms part of our longterm plan to build a strong foundation for the game.”

FKF Kwale Branch Chairman Hamisi Mwakoja added: “We welcome this partnership as a boost to local football development. The inclusion of women’s teams is also a big step in promoting inclusivity.” Kentaste CEO Kyle Denning said: “Kentaste promotes active, healthy living –  values aligned with sport. We’re proud tosupport a community-based tournament that helps young people grow through football.”

Kenya is expected to host the CECAFA Beach Soccer Championship 6 to 11 June 2025 in Mombasa.

Men’s teams: Lowkey, Diani Stars, Orlando, Kombani Youth, Ukunda United, BlockBoys, Veteran, Diani Tigers, Bonanza, Dolphin, Generation, Barbadoz, GombatoYouth, Real Junior, Mwamanga United, Kongo.

Women’s teams: Barbados Queens, Red Queens, Ocean Queens, Diani Queens, DianiLadies, Mwanambeyu Girls, Diani Tigress, Diani Starlets.
