The Chairman of Kenya African National Union party Gideon Moi has aligned himself with President William Ruto, paving way for cooperation between the ruling party and the country’s independence party.

The two leaders met at Moi’s Kabarak residence in Nakuru County on Friday, where they addressed KANU grassroots delegates from Baringo County. The meeting follows Moi’s recent decision to withdraw from the upcoming Baringo senatorial by-election.

“We’ve elected to pursue the path of unity and shared purpose at this crucial point of our nation,” Moi stated, expressing gratitude to the people of Baringo for their support. “This is a chance to move beyond our differences and build a cohesive and prosperous country.”

Moi explained that although he had prepared to run for the senatorial seat, his choice to step aside stemmed from discussions with President Ruto.

“I had adequately prepared for the by-election, but I couldn’t proceed, and the President understands why. That is why I invited him to address my supporters; that was the purpose of today’s meeting,” he said.

He further noted that President Ruto had committed to completing stalled development projects in Baringo County that were initiated during his first term as senator.

The two leaders had previously been vying for political dominance in the larger Rift Valley following the departure of the late retired President Daniel Arap Moi from the political scene. Ruto emerged as the victor in this rivalry, a position that ultimately helped him attain the presidency.
