Homa Bay Governor has said the quest to ensure the county gains a city status is on course.
Speaking during the 62nd Madaraka Day celebrations held Sunday at the new Raila Odinga Stadium, Governor Wanga expressed optimism that the steps the County Government is undertaking to ensure it is elevated to a city within the next 10 years.
“The construction of our new County headquarters in partnership with CPF is now nearly complete and it will provide a one stop shop for all government services complete with a Huduma Centre. This project is part of a broader vision to transform Homa Bay into a vibrant economic hub and a gate way to East Africa,” Governor Wanga said.
“Our larger vision is to have a Homa Bay City in a decade. The Cape Town of Kenya,” she added.
In her speech, Governor Wanga leveraged her the day’s celebration to spotlight achievements under her administration with key sectors the construction of the 12,000 seater capacity Raila Odinga Stadium, tourism, the achievement of Two-Thirds Gender Rule with the election of Millie Odhiambo, Dr. Eve Obara, Dr. Lilian Gogo, Hon. Bensouda and Senator Beatrice Ogolla.

Others include; the construction of 10 fresh produce markets in Kijebi, Luanda, Sindo, Mbita, Ndhiwa, Rodi, Kendu Bay, Misambi, Kobodo and the Homa Bay Fish Market at the Lakefront initiated by the Kenya Kwanza administration and the revitalization of the piers in Homa Bay, Kendu Bay and Mbita.
In addition, the county boss noted the county raised its own source revenue by 700pc from Ksh 191 Million to over Ksh 1 Billion within two and a half years.

“Using these enhanced own source revenue we are constructing a five-storey Accident and Emergency Block in the Level 5 Homa Bay County Teaching and Referral Hospital which will serve as a referral hub, our commitment to a healthier and wealthier county,” she said.
On the healthcare front, the Homa Bay Governor called on the Government to assist counties in recruitment of healthcare workers and regularization of the UHC Staff.
